Karpathos is the second biggest island in the Dodekanes with 302 square kilometers and a coastline of 160km. Karpathos is one of the most southern greek islands just between Crete and Rhodos. The south of the island is very flat whereas the north has mountains that are reaching up to 1215m (Kali Limni).
The temperatures are very comfortable since there is a constant seabreeze during the summer months with temperatures around 30 degree in July / August. Karpathos hasn't been discovered by mass tourism yet and offers an original greek experience. Its mountain landscape in the north is a secret tip for excellent trecking and all around the island you can find untouched bays with cristal clear water. And last not least, Karpathos is famous for its strong and constant wind and can be counted to one of the most wind reliable spots in the mediteranian during the summer months.
During May and October there is a almost 100% certainty that the Meltemi (the name of the famous wind) is blowing between 5-7 Bft. The wind is blowing all day long and you can start the day with a early morning session and finish it with a sunset session. For this reason Karpathos is world famous amongst windsurfers.
Karpathos has a very unique charme. The bushland landscape in the south is in strong contrast to some very green patches in its middle. However, it is this unique characteristic that makes visitors return to Karpathos over and over again. The west coast offers lonely bays with beautiful sand beaches and dense forest, remote mountain villages and old fisher villages. In the most nothern part you will find the mountain village Olympos. A small greek village as it was 100 years ago.
The small streets are not accesible by car and the standard way of transport is by donkey. At the outskirt of the village are the typical white greek windmals that are still actively operated in Olympos. Many old traditions are kept alive in Olympos and a must see for your Karpathos visit.
Pigadia is about 13 km from the Pro Centre and the main accomodations that our guest prefer to use. There are many good taverns and restaurants around the harbour as well as super market, internet cafes, etc. There are even some bars and clubs to enjoy the nightlife. Charter boat companies operate from Pigadia and offer day trips to the neighbouring island Saria and the village Olympos.
